I have been particularly pissed the fuck off lately about the way men continue to objectify women.
Of course, this is something that, as women, we live with day in and day out through the majority of our lives.
However, many grow accustomed to it and we all find our coping mechanisms for how to deal with it.
Maybe we numb ourselves out, get enraged, call men out, keep quiet, feel anger, sadness, grief, discomfort, rebel in one way or another, get used to it, or simply accept it as the world we live in.
Yes, it is the world we live in right now, where a woman is virtually unable to walk down the street without receiving some sort of cat-call, sexually demeaning phrase, or uncomfortable objectifying stare from men -- but that does not make it acceptable.
We live in a world where women are told that dressing in any way other than modestly, but especially provocatively or in any way that communicates a sense of pride or comfort within oneself sexually, we are in fact, "asking for it".
The fact that this is the reality we are a part of day in and day out, the fact that women are left to "get used to" being objectified by men, but that the second we speak out against it or call one of them out in the act, that suddenly makes us a "bitch" -- is complete and utter bullshit.
I'm calling it out, right now.
I hate noticing the parts of myself that are just accustomed to this kind of treatment.
I absolutely loathe the fact that I continue to get labeled a bitch because I refuse to keep quiet when I witness this behavior in men.
I despise the fact that I still find myself, from time to time, tolerating or shrinking in the presence of men that treat women in this way.
I'm sick of not being able to sit on my porch or walk down the street without feeling energetically accosted by men every single day.
I'm so over feeling unsafe around the majority of the male species and out in the world because of their looming presence and unnerving stares.
It's time, people.
Let's graduate to the next level of growing the fuck up where women can more comfortably live in the world feeling safe to express themselves and simply be in their sexuality without fear of getting assaulted, abused, or raped around every corner.
Women are free to dress however they damn please, and that includes not always needing to dress modestly in order to garner respect in the world.
